Park Ranger (Interpretation)

The incumbent will serve as a Park Ranger (Interpretation), and will:
Research, develop, and present briefings, lectures, multi-media shows, structured and impromptu talks, guided walks and tours, and other presentations about the resources of the park employing appropriate tangibles/intangibles/universal concepts, interpretive techniques and devices geared to the characteristics and interests of particular audiences that increase visitor understanding of the meanings and significance of park resources; Learn about the park resources by researching primary and secondary documents, using State, regional, and local archives and public and private repositories, as well as Government documents in the National Archives or Library of Congress or available in relevant Federal agencies; Convert and apply knowledge of historical, cultural, natural, scientific, and/or technical information into understandable concepts for diverse audiences; Hire and select personnel following mandated procedures from list of eligibles; Train, lead, monitor and guide lower graded employees on employing appropriate interpretive techniques and devices geared to the characteristics and interests of particular audiences that increase visitor understanding of the meanings and significance of park resources; Observe, audit, and provide feedback of interpretive programs for lower graded employees and volunteers. Lead, direct, oversee, and supervise an interpretive district operation; Participate in planning the interpretive program for a season or for a longer span of time by identifying program improvements; recommending methods to target and attract untapped audiences; Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and lead large and complex special events; Direct and lead the daily operations of a visitor center, fee operation or similar; Using word processing software, write and develop interpretive documents, standard operating procedures, text, brochures, site bulletins, waysides, and temporary and/or permanent exhibits employing appropriate interpretive writing techniques geared to the characteristics and interests of particular audiences that increase visitor understanding of the meanings and significance of park resources; Use desktop publishing and image editing software (such as InDesign, PageMaker, Quark, or Microsoft Publisher) to write, design, and produce publications, exhibits, and/or other non-personal services; Coordinate the repair and rehab of interpretive/educational exhibits and waysides. Prepare and present curriculum-based programs for educational groups at multiple and post-secondary grade levels; Set up, operate, and perform minor maintenance of audio/visual equipment used in illustrated and multi-media programs. Working independently as a front-line representative, perform assignments in a busy visitor center, such as opening and closing the facility, greeting visitors and assessing needs, answering and researching visitor questions about the park and its recreational opportunities, handling problems, complaints, concerns, and collecting and maintaining fund accountability following established guidelines; Collect, compile and maintain records and statistics of visitor use and attendance using Excel or similar software programs; Actively engage and interact with local communities through on and off-site representation, interpretive programming, open houses, workshops and other meetings. Maintain effective working relationships with organizations, cultural institutions, state and local government agencies, and user groups. Area Information:
Ozark National Scenic Riverways is located in the heart of the Ozark Highlands of Missouri, in the southeastern portion of the state on the Current and Jack's Fork Rivers. The park features 134 miles of crystal clear, spring-fed rivers that are flanked by scenic bluffs and numerous springs and caves. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound and include canoeing, tubing, fishing, swimming, and hiking. The duty station for this position is Round Spring, near Eminence, Missouri. Limited shopping, medical, and dental are available. For more shopping, medical, dental, and entertainment Salem , Missouri is approximately 40 miles north of Eminence. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. If a part-time work schedule is reflected, the hours must be annotated to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
providing daily operational oversight in complex visitor contact areas/site operations; experience in interpretive operations and program development and delivery; experience in providing guidance to others in such an operation and in program development. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least two full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree in one of the following fields:
natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Volunteer

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
